TL;DR - Quick Summary

MyCase Accounting imports a bank statement as a CSV: open the account, click Import Transaction from CSV, upload the file, then preview it and use Map Columns to match each field, which turns from orange to green. Convert your PDF statement to CSV first, then reconcile checking, savings, card, or trust accounts.

Import a statement as CSV in MyCase

MyCase is legal case management, and MyCase Accounting adds the books, including a manual bank import. You open the account you want the transactions in, click the Import Transaction from CSV button, then browse to your file or drag and drop it into the space provided and click Upload Bank Transactions. The import is CSV, so a PDF statement has to become a CSV first. Converting it produces exactly that: a clean, column-separated file the uploader accepts, without you keying rows into the account by hand.

Preview and map the columns

MyCase does not assume your columns are in its order. After the upload it shows a preview of the spreadsheet so you can confirm the rows read correctly, then you click Map Columns and point each column at the matching MyCase field. Unmapped fields show in orange and turn green once you have matched them, so you can see at a glance when the mapping is complete. A converted CSV with clear, separated date, amount, and description columns makes that mapping quick, since each one lines up with a field rather than needing to be split apart first.

Reconciling checking, trust, and more

MyCase recommends reconciling your checking, savings, credit card, and trust accounts every month, comparing the bank statement to the transactions in MyCase. For trust it runs a three-way reconciliation that aligns your client ledger balances, the bank activity, and the related payments, invoices, and trust requests, keeping client balances audit-ready. Importing the statement feeds the bank side of that comparison and lets MyCase match transactions automatically, so a clean converted file cuts the manual matching each month.

Getting a clean CSV from the statement

The whole flow depends on a well-formed CSV, since a messy file makes the preview and the mapping harder and leaves more to fix by hand. A PDF statement hides the transactions inside a page layout, so converting it pulls each one out into its own row with the date, amount, and description in separate columns. That is the shape MyCase's Map Columns step expects, so the fields go from orange to green with little fuss and the reconciliation starts from accurate data.

Accuracy and privacy

Because a firm's reconciliations, and especially a trust three-way, have to balance exactly, every transaction is reviewable in the converter before export so a misread figure does not carry into the mapping. The output arrives as a clean CSV ready to upload and map. Since a statement holds real client and firm account activity, the file is processed to build the CSV and then deleted automatically, with nothing kept on a server afterward.

How it works

  1. Convert the PDF: Convert the PDF bank statement into a CSV file.
  2. Upload the CSV: Open the account, click Import Transaction from CSV, drag and drop or browse to the file, and click Upload Bank Transactions.
  3. Map the columns: Preview the spreadsheet, click Map Columns, and match each column until the fields turn from orange to green.
  4. Reconcile: Reconcile the account against the statement, and for trust accounts run the three-way reconciliation.
